Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

If you have not looked into this Martial Art, you should.  Over the years, I have studied Karate, Judo, Aikido, Shorin-Ryu.  Mostly I studied these arts because I was fascinated with the self-control aspect of Martial Arts.  But I also wanted to be able to effectively defend myself.

Been real busy

Friday, August 24th, 2007

It’s been quite some time since I posted.  Life has been real busy of late.  I guess thats a good thing but sometimes it gets a bit tiresome.  Right now I am sitting back watching History of the World Part I, one of my favorite older movies.Â

Its not politics

Just got back from Jazz Fest in New Orleans, it was a blast. A friend of mine is getting married and had his bachelor party in New Orleans during Jazz Fest. It was a blast and not at all what I expected.

I was expecting a mini-Woodstock. You know, one big stage and a bunch bands playing all day on that stage. Instead there were 11 stages and concert tents. There were bands on all those stages all day and they were all excellent.

My favorite was the gospel tent, we went to the tent just because we had not been there. I was expecting some kind of hymn revival, instead I was treated to some grinding rock and roll gospel. It was awesome. It reminded me of some concerts I went to in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Grinding guitar, pounding drums loud vocals and accompaniment. I loved it.

If you love music you should go to the Jazz Fest. There is something for everyone. Just make sure you bring sun screen, a hat, and an easy to carry chair. It’s hot and you have to pretty much stand all day.

Cool Quote

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Found this quote on a bulletin board…

As I continue to mature and grow in grace as I grow in age, I strive to strengthen myself where I am weak. This striving happens in bursts. Sometimes, I have the chance to indulge one or more of these weaknesses and tell a lie. Every time I don’t lie, I make that area of my life a little better. But I have a lot of room for improvement.

Amazon Unbox needs to be Reboxed

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Ya I know, thats a cheesy title but it makes my point. My wife is sick so last night I thought we should rent a movie. I don’t have a blockbuster membership (swore them off a long time ago) and my Netflix movies were on their way back already. (more…)

Reorganizing is not fun

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

At my sons birthday party not long ago, my dad made an offhanded comment about how disorganized my basement is. My basement is my office and playroom, there are 4 computers their monitors, 3 desks/workstations several bookshelves and assorted other items in general disarray.

I sent a complaint to Symantec

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

Okay, I was infected by a Trojan that was not caught by Norton. I spent about 3 hours trapping and removing it. It appears to be a variant of the W32.Rbot-AND virus.

My solution to the XBOX 360 streaming video problem

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

After a lot of time futzing around I found a solution to my problem and thought I would share it. It’s still not as simple as I thought it should be.

First the background:

What I wanted was to watch my movies on the xbox 360 with little to no quality loss. Also, I did not want the conversion process to be painful (read time consuming or too many processes). I am currently in process of ripping all of my DVDs to hard disk. My current method is to rip the vobs as a DVD VIDEO_TS folder so I can watch them through TheaterTek. The problem is, in their infinite wisdom, Microsoft decided that the XBOX 360 should not stream DVD video, what a bunch of idiots.

They are worried about DRM etc… Well, dammit these are my DVD’s I purchased every one of them, if I want to go and play Frisbee with them I can. If I want to melt them onto my forehead I can. If I want to rip it to my hard drive to protect my property (the source media) then dammit I can. If I upload the rip or burn it and give it to my friends that’s breaking the law.

A Journey to the darkside

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

For those of you who have been to my house, you know that I have over 1,000 DVD movies at my house (yes I bought them all over the years). The DVD’s take up two bookshelves in my front room, two bookshelves in my basement and there are some DVD’s in boxes. It was time to reduce clutter and make it easier to play a movie. (more…)
