Did I really vote for this guy?

Sorry, it was me, I voted for Bush. But not really, I voted against Kerry. Still I feel some responsibility for voting for Bush. I don’t think there is a worse president in history. I would even take Clinton back at this point at least he was self serving and thats predictable. I don’t know what master Bush serves, its terrible. He is so contradictory it makes me ill.

We are in a “war against terrorism” but you can walk into our country from Mexico or Canada. We have troops halfway around the world defending my right to drive a gas guzzler and no serious effort to find an alternative.

I don’t know what to do anymore, I am actually hoping for some kind of radical change. Bush has spent more money than all previous presidents… combined. This came from a cspan report where I watched democrats argue for spending control and republicans arguing for more social programs. Did I wake up in some strange world?

I was having this long talk with my daughter the other day and I came to the conclusion that in her generation the US will be third world. We have no economic specialization and the only way we are hanging onto our status now is through military power.

Do any of our politicians study history? I know its a tired analogy but just look at some roman history. We are the Roman Empire on an accelerated course, all we need now is to split our country up into two districts and I would run for the hills. (Octavius and Mark Antony split the empire between them, it was the middle of the end)

We were all fired up when we went into Baghdad for weapons of mass destruction (WMD). Trust me, they were I saw them in the first gulf war. But what was the real reason we went in there. Saddam Hussein could not have put them to use anyway and certainly these weapons were no threat to us, Bush knew this. Saddam Hussein had many enemies and there is no way he would have turned these weapons over to someone else.

If Bush or Clinton would have studied history, they would have realized that isolating a country after defeating them is a bad idea. Look at Germany post World War I, why do you think we ended up in WWII. We isolated Iraq after the first gulf war and guess what, we went back to war with them.

The right way is to treat them like we did Japan after WWII, we are sorry you had to fight and lose but lets get your country back on its feet now. Here we are five years and a trillion dollars later with no real result. We got involved in someone else’s civil war, again check history, do Korea or Vietnam ring any bells. They were someone else’s civil war no good solution.

The real reason was oil, no, not to take over the oil. But to try and break up the hold OPEC has on our country. Why? How about instead of putting a trillion dollars into a single stable oil country we put a trillion dollars into figuring out a good alternative to oil. I am pretty sure with a trillion dollars we could have solved the problem.

Now, what scars me is all the hubub over Iran. It really sounds like we are trying to create a reason to go into Iran. Good good are you kidding me?? Lets go back into history again. This is a stretch so you have to follow me here.

Prohibition, during prohibition the gangs got out of control. Why? because alcohol sales gave them money. With the money they were able to fight a war with the US Government. Once prohibition was repealed guess what? crime fell again because the gangs no longer had money. Think of the OPEC nations as those gangs, they are waging a war against us using our money. If we (the US and Europe) spent a trillion dollars on alternative fuel the gangs would have no money.

That whole region would be back in the dark ages. It’s really hard to figure out a way to blow the US up when you are worried about finding your next meal in the desert. This is the only real solution to the problem. Invading Iraq was a mistake and now Invading Iran will be an even worse mistake. I am starting to feel like a German citizen in 1938.

We have government sponsored racism (Political correctness), an single enemy class to blame (Muslims) and a strong military. I am getting scared. My son in 9 and I think we will still be in this “war” when he is of military age. That scares the hell out of me. I would be proud to have my son fight in a just war but pissed at my government wasted his life over oil.

I fought in the first gulf war and would have been willing to give my life then. We were defending the oppressed (Kuwait) from the oppressor (Iraq). Thats a just war, fighting with Saddam Hussein over WMD that he could not possible deploy against us is asinine and expensive. It would have been cheaper for the government to subsidize fuel for us. We are not freeing the oppressed we are freeing the pump.
